Life Courses

When does a career in dance begin and when does it end? And what paths can be taken? From the first contact with ‘Tanz in Schulen’ (Dance in Schools), which has been pursued in numerous projects throughout Germany over the past years and raised questions pertaining to the methods and quality criteria of dance-pedagogical work, the path of this thematic focus on “Life Courses” is continued with the discussion of innovative forms of dance education as well as aspects of both scientifically and artistically oriented research in dance.
How is research defined in existing choreographic and scientific projects? How do the research methods of theorists and practitioners differ and what do they have in common? What can be drawn from them in order to enhance modern dance education? And what difficulties does one face when seeking to work in an integrative way in the fields of art or science?
No other professional career is as short as that of a dancer. Examples of ending one’s career are therefore presented in a model consulting itinerary giving information on the possibilities of a “life after dance”.
